The Team Spirit Committee of Life Care Center of Bridgeton, Missouri, sponsored a food drive during early December, 2016, to ensure associates in need had food for Christmas.
Enough food was donated over the course of two weeks to provide seven associates with food boxes for Christmas. Each box contained a variety of canned goods, along with a turkey and a ham.
Associates were able to anonymously nominate someone they knew was in need. Then, Julie Collins, executive director, reviewed the nominations and consulted with department mangers as necessary to pick the associates who received the food boxes.
One of the associates who received a box said she cried instantly when her son exclaimed, “We are blessed and highly favored. There is a God!”
The Team Spirit Committee was formed approximately one year ago. It is an associate-run committee that plans special events to enhance workplace morale and engagement. They host fundraising meals on payday Fridays to raise money for the events as needed.
Members are associates who volunteer to represent each department. Two department managers are on the committee to help ensure that policies and budget are maintained.
Other associate events sponsored by the committee include a surprise ice cream social, an off-site Christmas party, providing financial assistance to those in need and a school supply drive for associates’ children.
